Description

Masks are a window into the soul of a culture, and provide us with great conversation pieces for the home. African masks are considered amongst the finest creations in the art world and are highly sought by art collectors. Many of the pieces & some replica’s, can be seen in museums and art galleries across the world. The African people have great passion towards the art and culture. They depict their nature, lifestyle and behavior in their creations which provide interesting information about the African heritage. African Masks are believed to embody the spirit of an ancestor, and symbolize a message of wisdom, prosperity, security, and power.  Masking ceremonies in Africa have great cultural and traditional significance. Latest developments and understanding of Aesthetic principles, religious and ceremonial values, have brought about a greater insight into the ideas and moral values that African artists express in their art. Stylish elements in a mask’s looks are codified by the tradition and may either identify a specific community or convey specific meanings. For thousands of years, rituals and ceremonies was and to a lesser extent is still an integral part of African life. Putting on a mask is a transformative experience. It allows us to be someone we’re not for a moment, changing both how we see ourselves and how we behave outwardly. Many of us know this feeling from Halloween in America, but it’s a universal feeling shared across cultures throughout human history.

A beautiful hand carved mask especially for lovers. The almond-shaped face is embellished with brass and accented in dark brown. The two love birds are shown on the mask have been beautifully embeded with copper sheet. Named Sanaa (“Prove” in the Ewe language), such pieces are given to a woman whom a man loves very much. It demonstrates his feelings and is a promise that nothing will separate them. The African Love Mask is entirely hand carved from African wood and detailed with bold accents. Metallic inlays are enhanced with copper paint colors and an intricate design.
